Building Community Through Music

The Northampton Community Music Center was founded in 1986 on the principle that music education is an essential part of every human being's growth and development. Our mission is to foster the love and pursuit of music through quality musical education, performances and activities that are accessible to all.

Our goals are to:
• foster an appreciation of music through active participation in music
• deepen the bonds between children and their caregivers by engaging them in shared musical experiences in a supportive setting
• expand each individual's sense of opportunity through music
• provide all individuals who qualify the financial aid needed to pursue the study of music
• inspire and unite people of all ages and backgrounds and thereby enrich the life of the greater Northampton community through the shared experience of music

The Northampton Community Music Center is located in the historic South Street School Building. Built in 1891, this served as one of Northampton's primary elementary schools until closing its doors in 1990. After launching a capital campaign that raised more than $600,000 for the building's restoration, NCMC moved into its new home in 1998 and was presented with a Historic Preservation Award from the Northampton Historical Commission.
