Christopher Cheek teaches saxophone, theory and improvisation at NCMC. He has a Bachelor's degree in Jazz performance from the Berklee College of music in Boston and a Master's degree in Jazz arranging and composition from Queens College in New York. Chris has performed and recorded with a variety of notables in the Jazz world including Paul Motion, Charlie Haden, Steve Swallow, Guillermo Klein, Dafnis Prieto and Miguel Zenon. In addition to fronting his own groups, Chris has also been co-leader of such wayward outfits as The Bloomdaddies, Rudder, and Reeds Ramble. Chris has worked with students and ensembles from the New School in New York, as well as from the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag and the Jazzcampus in Basel, Switzerland. He is currently writing, arranging and recording material for the new saxophone/violin duo XO Planet.
