YOUNG CHILD PROGRAMS:

Family Music: This high-spirited music experience for children ages birth through five years (with their parents) introduces children to the joys of music through singing and singing games, chanting, movement, and instrument play. Families sing and dance together and are encouraged to respond spontaneously to music.
Ages: Birth-5, with parent or guardian.
Dates: Session I: July 7-17 / Session II: July 21-31 - all classes start at 9:30AM and last 45 minutes.
{
Families attend two classes per week for two consecutive weeks with the same instructor, either Mon/Wed or Tue/Thu each week.}



Future Maestros Camp:
Session I: Explore the world of Music!
-- Daily instrument exploration, art projects, and songwriting sessions. Students will explore the world of music through a variety of different media, instruments, and genres. Cathrine Iselin will lead a Eurhythmics component.
Session II: Create A Musical! -- another fun-filled summer camp, only this time campers will be creating their very own musical to perform on the last day of camp! They will record background tracks, write the script, create the props, scenery and costumes, and act out all the parts. Working hand in hand iwth Eurhythmics instructor Catherine Iselin, students will also create their won choreography for their musical numbers.
Ages: 4-7. Students are asked to bring a snack with them each day!
Dates: Session I: August 4-8, 9AM - noon
/ Session II: 11-15, 9AM - noon

 

Orff, Orff, and Away! Camp: Instructor Cheryl noble, who is certified in Orff-Schulwerk, will lead the class in a comprehensive music program, utilizing child-friendly approaches to learning through instrument play on pitched and unpitched percussion (including malletted instruments) and recorders. Other activities will include note-reading games, chanting, movement, rhymes, call-and-response games, and body percussion.
Ages: 6-8. Students are asked to bring a snack with them each day!
Dates: August 18-22, 9AM - noon




Summer Chamber Music Camp:
The SCMC for string, woodwind and piano students challenges players to develop a thoughtful aproach to ensemble playing and a deeper understanding of music. the heart of the program is the ensemble experience - coached chamber music groups, workshops, and concerts. Students in grades 4-12 are encouraged to try out. This summer, the camp will be split into Junior (grades 4-6) and Senior (grades 6-12) divisions for the first time; the audition process is different for each group, and is explained in this flyer.

Rock 'n Roll Camp for Teens:
NCMC and Downtown Sounds are proud to bring you this Rock 'n Roll Camp for students age 12-18 who want to develop the skills they need ot create and perform successfully in a band. Veteran band msuicans and teachers will guide the students through band practice and preparation for their final performances on the last days of each session. Students of guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, sax and vocals with at least one year of prior study are encouraged to register. Students of other instruments are also invited to apply.

July 21-25, and July 28 - August 1, 2008
