Chamber Ensembles (youth and adult) String, wind, brass, and piano players are placed in groups according to age and ability and coached by NCMC faculty members. Meeting times are arranged by group consensus, and a concert open to the public is held at the conclusion of each session. Program Coordinator: Emily Greene
Jazz Ensembles (youth and adult) For players of any instrument who would like to learn the foundations of jazz, improvisation and theory. Students are placed in groups according to age and ability and coached by the director of the program, Joe Belmont. Groups include full rhythm section of drums, bass and piano. New students should call NCMC prior to enrolling. Experienced players are welcome.
Brass Ensemble The focus of this group is for brass players to develop musicality and the intricate nuances of ensemble playing. Being able to play otes and rhythms accurately is a pre-requisite for this group. Three or more years of individual study and an audition are required. Director: Donna Gouger
Piano Connection A monthly "book group" for pianists in which participants share solo repertoire in progress, sight-read 4-hand pieces, discuss style, structure and form, and share articles and books pertaining to the piano world. Community outreach performances are arranged during the year. Program Coordinator: Meg Kelsey Wright
Rock Band (youth and adult) For individuals who want to develop the skills required to work productively in a band setting under the guidance of an experienced coach. Students of guitar, bass, drums, sax, keyboards and voice, with at least one year of individual study are encouraged to register. Pre-formed bands or individuals looking for placement in a band are welcome, and all instruments will be considered.
Celtic Jam This program is open to all students who want to learn tunes from the Celtic Folk repertoire and perform them effectively in a group setting. Open to all melodic instruments and not limited to violinists. It is important that students have basic proficiency on their instruments. All tunes are taught entirely by ear through a combination of repetition, singing and call and response. Sheet music is not provided. Students are stringly encourages to bring a recording device to class as it is an important tool for strengthening the ear. Instructor: Colleen Jennings
Mid-Winter String Orchestra This six week program is designed to introduce young string players to the orchestra experience. Parents who have the applicable skills are encouraged to play as well. All students will be auditioned in December. Suzuki students must be in Book 3 or later and non-Suzuki students must have at least three years of study on their instrument and be able to read music.
